When valves on pumps, dividers or branchpipes are opened or closed too abruptly, as well as through excessively fast water input, pressure shocks (water hammers) occur in the hoseline. These may amount to several times the operating pressure and damage hoses, pumps and fittings. Pressure relief valves absorb these pressure shocks quickly and safely.
